ITF Taekwon-Do School
Taekwon-Do is a modern art of self defence developed in 1955 in Korea. The father and founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi Hong Hi, researched other martial arts and used principals of modern science to design techniques which have maximum power and effectiveness. Taekwon-Do has grown in popularity and today is taught in nearly every country in the world. It is greatly renowned for its spectacular and dynamic kicking techniques. However, there are over 3000 techniques using both legs and arms and also includes basic grappling and throwing moves. The range of techniques caters for all types of situations, including defending against more than one opponent and against weapons.
ITF Taekwon-Do is a very effective, practical and complete system of self defence.
Due to the nature of training a person will develop the ability to perform fast and powerful movements. Your reaction speed and awareness will be heightened. You will vastly improve your confidence in any given defence situation. This in itself will make it less likely that a possible assailant will choose you as a target.
The techniques you learn and practice will enable you to deal with any situation and you will learn defend against more than one opponent and against those armed with knives and sticks.

Who can learn Taekwon-Do
Brighton and Hove Taekwon-Do School encourages all to learn this exciting and dynamic martial art. Everybody is welcome whether you are a complete beginner, new to martial arts, just want to get fit, learn self-defence or strive towards attaining your black belt. We offer many classes across Brighton and Hove which should suit the most difficult schedule. We provide separate classes for children, 6 classes a week for adults and teens.
You are welcome if you have done or are training in other martial arts, or trained at a different Taekwon-Do school.
In Taekwon-Do, there are over 3000 different techniques which include punches, strikes, blocks, kicks and the flying and jumping kicks that this martial art is famous for. A student will learn the basic techniques: kicks, strikes, punches, blocks, developing strength, good muscle tone, balance, coordination, speed, power, flexibility, learning defence against attacks of all types including weapons such as knives and sticks.
The discipline is strong at Brighton and Hove Taekwon-Do, lead by the instructor and supported by the dedication and focus of all the students, yet the classes are friendly and enjoyable with good camaraderie amongst all the students.
The physical training side of Taekwon-Do can be quite tough, but is done on a gradient to suit every person from the youngest to those getting on in their years. This enables the most unfit person to join the class and develop their fitness over a period of time being pushed further only as their fitness increases. You will be surprised at how quickly and how far your fitness level reaches in a relatively short period of time. And as a you continue training your fitness improves to a very high degree along with the proficiency in the art.
The classes are friendly with a good atmosphere and the general camaraderie encourages students to develop in their training as well as a constant attention and input from the instructors and the senior students.
