What is Taekwon-Do?

Brighton and Hove Taekwon-Do is affiliated to the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), the original Taekwon-Do of the Father and Founder of Taekwon-Do; Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi.

Taekwon-Do is a modern art of self-defence developed in Korea. General Choi Hong Hi researched other martial arts and used principles of modern science to design techniques which have maximum power and effectiveness.

Taekwon-Do is hugely popular and taught in nearly every country in the world. Renowned for its spectacular and dynamic kicks, there are over 3000 techniques that cater for all types of situations, including defence against more than one opponent and against those armed with weapons such as knives or sticks.
 Who can benefit from Taekwon-Do?
Taekwon-Do is for any age, male or female, whatever your build or fitness level. At Brighton and Hove Taekwon-Do School we welcome all abilities. ITF Taekwon-Do is an effective, practical and complete system of self-defence.
You will:
  • Perform fast and powerful moves
  • Heighten your reaction speed and awareness
  • Vastly improve your confidence in any given defence situation (making it less likely that a possible assailant will choose you as a target)
  • Deal with any situation and defend against more than one opponent
  • Even defend against those with knives or sticks
The power you develop means even if you are of a very light build, such as a child or woman, you will be devastating to any attacker. Even the blocks, due to their power, can be used to disable an opponent, without even having to strike the opponent back. There are also a number of effective and simple release techniques to escape from any hold and contrary to martial art myth there are many techniques learnt in Taekwon-Do to be used when only inches from your attacker.
